Group Leaders

The Sultana has issued a law so the group leaders will be nominated by a democratic election.
This doesn't apply to the Palace (where Sultana's family will maintain the power).

LEADER ROLE:
  • Group Leader is a in-character role. S/he will behave as such.
  • Group Leader is familiar with KoS rules and guidelines, and s/he will comply to them.
  • Group Leader will respect individuals that don't wish to participate in group activities, and they would rather play as individuals. On the other side, individual players, who don't wish to participate in group activities, may not sabotage and interfere with the group activities.
  • Group Leaders are not Admins. Their "power" is in-character. They may take disciplinary actions in-character (e.g. contact Uncle Ansome, the Judge, to send someone in prison for in-world crime).
  • Group Leader will have a sign/picture at their group camp.
  • Group Leader will advertise group activities on the Ireem Chronicles
  • Group Leader will get the title in the official Group (eg Kingdom of Sand - Slavers for Slavers)
  • Group Leader may create new roles and assign their teammates to those roles

REQUIREMENTS AS CANDIDATE:
  • Candidates MUST be in the same group (e.g. if you are a slaver, you won't qualify to become knight leader). However, they may decide to switch group before the election. If they get elected, they MUST stay in the same group, or their leadership will be automatically void.
  • To submit a candidacy, candidates will need a certain amount of KoS dinars (around 500K$). Therefore, they are indipendently wealthy or they have financial sponsors. New players won't be able to apply.
  • There will be a 48-hour window to submit their candidacy. A notice in the main group will announce the start of the election process.

DURATION:
  • The title will last for 2 weeks, then we will have a new election.
  • By having new elections, we will make sure that all current leaders are actively involved at KoS.
  • Besides that, there is some manual work associated with repeating the election. And Kora may arbitrarily extend the duration, if she is busy doing something else.

VOTING:
  • There will be a 48-hour window to submit your vote.
  • Only players in the same group may vote. E.g. only slavers may vote for slavers. You will need to have your group tag activated above your name. We WILL check if you are part of the group, so don't waste your KoS dinars, if you shouldn't vote.
  • If there are 4 or more candidates, we will pick the 2 candidates who received most of votes and we will run a final election. It is a little more work, but hopefully the best candidate will win.
  • Voting will cost KoS dinars (20K$). This will assure than only KoS players will vote (not explorers or not first time players).
  • Only one vote is allowed.

DISCLAIMER:
  • In any circumstance, the Sultana (and the Admins) may decide to withdrawn a leader and start a new election.
  • Group Leaders MUST agree and abide by the KOS Sim rules. Any violation as leader will void your leader status. If you are unsure about rules, contact an Admin. Also be respectful and polite in OOC towards other players. There are no exceptions.

The elections will be held as experiment. We will take measures to make sure that there is no cheating and the leader will be elected by popular vote. If we find anybody cheating, that will have serious consequences.

Knights Hospitaller

* UNDER CONSTRUCTION *

Knights Hospitaller are NOT in the employ of the Sultana. They are NOT Palace guards. If any or all of them choose to befriend and protect the Sultana they do so of their own choice, they are free agents. Their role is as good mercenaries, they choose the path of what they see as righteous and good as opposed to the predators whose activities they see as bad. Knights who wish to be 'bad' they should member of the predator group.
Knights have come to the land to defend those unable to defend themselves, e.g citizens and slaves. This was always their role.
Their oath should be: 'Be without fear in the face of your enemies. Be brave and upright that your God may love thee. Speak the truth always, even if it leads to your death. Safeguard the helpless and do no wrong. '
There is some confusion we see within the other predator groups who see them as linked to the Palace and the Sultana.
The Sultana is grateful for their elegance if they choose to give it. But She has an army of her own, otherwise how would she have become Sultana in the first place, how would her family have ruled these lands for so many years.

RULES ABOUT HAREM RENTAL

If you wish to rent the harem, please note that:

CONCEPT:
Although the Sultana has her own servants and staff, she has delegated the harem management to a competent and trusted palace inhabitant (maybe you!). What she doesn't know is that behind her back, the master run the harem as classy high-end "brothel" in the background. The harem services range from bath, massages, full service, etc. (including sexual services). Training classes should be offered to harem slaves to learn all skills that will make them the most attractive and sensual slaves of the Kingdom. Being harem slaves is a privilege and honor, and they will be treated in public with the utmost respect. Inside the harem, well, it is up to the harem owner. Also highly skilled slaves could be trained as spies for the Palace (e.g. Mata Hari role)

STAFF:
  • When you first rent the harem, you will have to keep previous staff. They will stay in the harem unless they decide otherwise.
  • You may not capture slaves, but you and your staff may buy or acquire slaves from other players (either from auction, bounty, direct purchase). If you had slaves from your previous position, they may also work for the harem.
  • We don't make discrimination for gender or sexual orientation. Harem slaves may be either male or female. All sexual orientation are allowed. You may also have eunuchs.

FEES AND REVENUE:
  • Rental costs 1,000K$ a week
  • Revenue come from harem activities (either services to clients, organizing events, getting commissions -- be creative!)

LIMITS:
  • You MUST wear a citizen/palace tag (yellow tag). Switching tags is not allowed for you as business owner for the time of the rental.
  • Although you will own the harem and the slaves, in all other parts of the palace, you and your staff should respect the peace and tranquility of the Sultana's residence. You will also be extremely polite and respectful towards Sultana and Royal Family.
  • The harem is not a private residence. It is not an exclusive club for a few. While you will hire the staff of your choice, the harem (bottom floor) is the reception area and is open to clients and visitors. The upper floor is reserved to staff and paying customers for services.

For questions, IM Kora Zenovka.

General Combat Rules & Info

At KoS we encourage and support the attack on sight because it is a reflection of a real situation. E. g. in real life, if you are considered an enemy, you would just get attacked without a previous announcement and an explanation of the reasons.

However, you should understand your role and surroundings if you want to attack-on-sight and be involved in combat. Failure to read the combat rules won't give you the permission to use you sword.

PREDATORS:
Generally predators are 'warriors' and they are allowed to attack-on-sight and capture. If they wish, they will give a prior warning, but it is not required. Drawing sword is already a signal of their fight intentions and should be considered a threat.

KNIGHTS:
Knights are also 'warriors' and they are allowed to attack-on-sight. However, they may attack only when they foresee a threat.
Example of threatening situations:
- predators with their sword drawn
- predators attacking citizens and knights
- predators chasing preys (only when preys agree to be helped or ask for it). If a prey doesn't give consent, you have to look the other way.
- anybody having a fight within the city walls
- if the appearance of the person within city walls is suspicious in any way (e.g Undead without their cloak).

Example of non-threatening situations:
- predators visiting the city with a sheathed sword and looking harmless
- undead who are fully cloaked and/or human-looking and with sheathed sword. If an Undead looks like a demon and is not fully cloaked, it might represent a threat, even with a sheathed sword.

Remember, when you evaluate a threat, look at the situation, don't look at their meter :-)

The only exception to the threat "rule" is when there is an approved RP story that allows Knights to go to predators camps and attack-on-sight (but it should be a reasonable story behind - not just personal OOC vendetta).

Also consider that while deserts is 'infested' with danger, the city most likely is not. In a way, everybody outside the gate is 'guilty' until proven innocent, while everybody in the city is innocent, until proven 'guilty'. Everybody outside the city walls may be considered a threat just by being there.

CITIZENS:
Citizens have limited involvement in the combat, and they use the scimitar for defense. They mostly rely on knights to defend the city and citizens. All area within the city walls is safe zone for citizens (except Dungeon and Magi Tower). Therefore, they have an unfair advantage in combat compared to knights and predators and their involvement in fight MUST be limited.
Citizens are always allowed to fight to protect themselves and their family (anywhere in the SIM). If they are within city walls, they may start a fight when a predator attacks a citizen or a prey (in need), and there are no knights around. If knights come and help, citizens should step back. They are not heroes and they don't go for the killing, unless it is personal and reasonable (e.g. the attacker abused your wife or so). Without a specific personal RP reason, citizens will stop fighting if:
- knights come and help, or
- offenders will run away, outside the city, and there is no more danger.

Outside city walls, they are still limited to combat for defense or when knights are not around.
If you are a citizen and would like to be more involved in the fight, you should consider to apply for a knight position.

PREYS/SLAVES:
They are NEVER allowed to use a sword. They may use an unscripted weapon to defend themselves. If they want to fight back and do damage, they should consider to switch role to citizens or knights.

PLAYERS WITH DISABLED/OOC METER:
They are NOT allowed to capture or combat. NO EXCEPTIONS.

PLAYERS CURRENTLY CAPTURED (any group):
They are NOT allowed to capture or combat.

SPECIAL CASES:
Certain groups are unlikely to fight each other. However, there are allowed exceptions. If you are a knight and a citizen insults you in-character, you are allowed to attack him and get your revenge in-character. Or if your in-game wife cheated on you, you can also attack her and kill her. You may eventually get sentenced to jail for your in-game crime, but it is not against-the SIM rules, as long as you keep it in-character.

PALACE:
The Palace is a safe zone, and absolutely no fighting at all takes place there.

CHEATING:
Cheating in combat will be reported and investigated.

Roleplay - Generic Guidelines

We - at Kingdom of Sand - welcome all kind of players. We keep roleplay rules simple for everybody, so it is not required to be an experienced roleplayer to join the game here. If you play at Kingdom of Sand, we expect you to read the KoS Guide and try to comply. Thank you.

I. DEFINITION

Role-play (RP) is an activity which requires players to assume roles of fictional characters and collaboratively create stories. You determine your own actions, free to improvise your way through the story while taking into consideration the RP guidelines and sim rules. Your choices during role-play shape the direction and outcome of the story and your character.

II. COMMON ABBREVIATIONS USED IN SECOND LIFE

RP = “role-play”
RL = “real-life”
SL = "Second Life"
IC = “in-character”
OOC = “out-of-character”
TP = “teleporting between or within sims in Second Life”

III. IN-CHARACTER (IC) vs. OUT-OF-CHARACTER (OOC)

In-character is a term used to describe your appearance and behavior while role-playing. It is your virtual or fictional-self, acting and behaving the character you’ve created at Kingdom of Sand. Majority of the time, you will enjoy remaining in-character, socializing with other players living their “second life” at Ireem.

Out-of-character refers to actions and communication that do not contribute nor is in-theme to the role-play stories created at Kingdom of Sand. Open conversations not in-character are allowed at the sky entrance and the shopping area.
Once you teleport down to Ireem, you are in-character.
If you wish to leave a comment in OOC:
- use a private IM if possible, or
- use brackets “ (( your chat ))” around your text, or
- type "/22" in front of your sentences in local chat
If you wish to be OOC at Ireem for a longer time period, maybe because you went out for lunch or you are showing the SIM to a friend of yours, please:
- disable your tag (click on 'Setup' on your HUD), or
- wear an explorer tag.
By showing your OOC status, other players won't include you in their roleplay.

IV. BE TRUE TO YOUR CHARACTER

Role-playing is based on this principle. Understand your group behavior. Know your friends and your enemies. Who do you trust and why? Give your character a personality. Work hard to make your character look the part, speak the part, keep the illusion going. Show everyone "who" your character is by actions and dress. Demonstrate your personality and your character flaws. In time, your character will develop naturally. If in the process, you realize that you picked the wrong group, you MAY change group.

V. IN-CHARACTER COMMUNICATION / LANGUAGE

Although the prevalent language is English, we welcome people from different countries and languages. Therefore, we appreciate your effort to communicate in English. Please be patient with other players to ease the communication barriers.

Try to avoid modern abbreviations or expressions, such as "lol", "omg", "you are a cool dude", because the SIM is dated in the Middle Ages. Try to immerse yourself in the theme.

If you wish to write in third person perspective (using pronouns such as he, she, they, their, herself, himself, themselves, etc.) use "emote", explained here below.

Just type "/me" command in front of your sentence. Example:
/me grins
will be translated to:
Your fullname grins

VI. NO GODMODING

Godmodding is either trying to control another person's character or making a character who is too perfect or too powerful. Make sure when you roleplay that you describe only your character's actions and responses to other character's actions. Don't make a character who knows everything, can do anything, and be careful when creating their skills and abilities; everyone has limits and they should be reasonable. Since this is a fantasy SIM, your character can have more skills than common sense allows in the real world, but there still should be limits to those skills. . Never roleplay permanently disfiguring someone’s character; ripping out an eye , cutting off an ear. In your mind they may grow back, but that may not be the beliefs of someone else. Always, always get permission.

VII. FINALLY, RESPECT ONE ANOTHER!

Since this sim, marked mature, requires everyone to be the age of 18+ in RL, all players should act it! Immaturity will not be tolerated. If you have a problem with someone OOC, take it to private instant messages or mute the person bothering you! OOC arguments disrupt role-play and BOTH parties will be warned, ejected or even banned.

If you are warned by an admin for violation of a rule or improper conduct, you are NOT to discuss or debate it. Rules are clearly stated in KoS Guide that everyone is supposed to read - ignorance is not an excuse.

Regardless of RP role, everyone is to be treated and respected equally when out-of-character. Remember, treat others as you would want to be treated.
